Whats Next For Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson’s time in Denver seems to be coming to an end. The current Broncos quarterback has not only put his Denver house up for sale, it was also expressed by head coach Sean Payton that a decision on Wilson will be made by the week of March 4th.

When asked questions about quarterbacks at the  NFL combine Payton kept alluding to “the next quarterback” of the team and how he went about evaluating quarterbacks. Payton who had success in New Orleans with a great pocket passing QB in Drew Brees, said “At some point teams are gonna make you win from the pocket, we can rush a certain way to keep quarterbacks from escaping..” basically stating he wants more of a pocket passing quarterback in which Russell Wilson is not that guy.

So what's next for Wilson? Where could he end up? Since arriving in Denver Wilson’s win-loss is 11-19 with Denver and he was 104-53-1 in Seattle. There have been a few trade destinations that have been mentioned for Wilson. One being the Atlanta Falcons but it seems as if Justin Fields is headed to the ATL so that rules out Atlanta. Minnesota has also been mentioned should they lose Kirk Cousins to free agency but it seems they are working out a deal there. The likely destination for Wilson seems to be the Las Vegas Raiders. Jimmy Garropolo will be out the first two games of the year for sure in Vegas. However, now head coach Antonio Pierce benched Garoppolo so I think Pierce with and experienced Wilson would work out especially with the weapons such as TE Michael Mayer and WR Davante Adams in Las Vegas and a good run game in Las Vegas also would help Wilson.

Denver will likely look in the draft for a quarterback that fits Sean Payton, likely to be Michigan's JJ Mcarthy or Oregon’s Bo Nix, both good pocket passing quarterbacks who if needed are able to make plays with their legs. Likely that Denver will look to go with someone more experienced are Quarterback which rules out Drake Maye out of North Carolina if he was to still be available at the 12th pick or should Denver trade up into a position to possibly land Maye.

It is no secret that Russel Wilson’s time in Denver is over as good as he was in Seattle. Russ just did not seem to fit the mold for new head coach Sean Payton and things were just not working in the Mile High City for Wilson.
